Gundam Wing is not mine. I know that and so do you. ~_^

Shi-chan: I cannot believe I am spending Christmas Eve
writing a fanfic instead of living it up with a cup of hot chocolate by the
fire.
Duo: It's 2:22 a.m. Make a wish!
Shi-chan: It's what!?!? I should be sleeping now!
Quatre: Look on the bright side, your okaachan won't mind if
you sleep in...
Trowa: Your oniichan will.
Shi-chan: He's right. And this one's at least a
three-parter, so I'd better get started. Let's go!

Jack Frost Yuy
~By Shimegami-chan
Part 1
Shounen-ai, and sap, and angst, and stuff.
Enjoy, and merry Christmas!
AHEM. THIS FIC IS BASED ON THE MOVIE JACK FROST. IF YOU
THINK I CAN'T COME UP WITH A MORE ORIGINAL STORY.... well, you'd be right. No,
just kidding, this is my second Christmas fic and the first is all my idea, but
Jack Frost is my favourite movie in the world and this is a perfect time to
base a cute shounen-ai fic on it. The storyline and stuff is really really
close to the original, but by the end I'm sure it'll have the usual Shi-chan
quirks. Enjoy!
Duo toyed with his braid, throwing a wistful glance at
Wufei. The Chinese man was sitting on the couch beside him stoically, watching
television. Trowa sat on the other side of him. Neither pilot glanced in Duo's
direction.
It was the day before Christmas Eve, and Duo had yet to get
into the holiday spirit. None of his friends celebrated the holiday, although
they were spending their vacations at Duo's small house, for that Duo was
thankful. In the spirit or not, he didn't want to spend Christmas alone. Ever
again. He had always spent it alone...and last year he had come so close...
The braided boy shook the painful memories from his head and
hopped off the couch, pasting a fake smile on his face. "Wu-man! Trowa!
I'm gonna go out and build a snowman, you want to help?" L2 had just
gotten a fairly large snowfall from the weather generators, probably in hopes
of pleasing the people's want of a white Christmas. Duo peered down hopefully
at his two friends.
"Go out in that? I think not." Wufei turned his
attention back to the television.
"Sorry, Duo." Trowa said, his voice almost
sounding apologetic. "I didn't bring any heavy clothing, and yours won't
fit. Go on out by yourself, okay?"
Trowa seemed to be a little more sympathetic of Duo's feelings;
he knew that Duo was going though a hard time. But Duo was still hurt.
"You're gonna turn into couch potatoes," he
mumbled before stalking into the kitchen. Quatre was in there fixing dinner.
"Q-man! What's up? Want to go help me build a
snowman?" Duo went to stir the soup. "I could have made dinner, ya
know."
Quatre dried his hands on a cloth. "Happy to help, Duo,
and since you're making dinner tomorrow it's only right. But I can't go outside
until this is finished, and there's a while to go on it. Did you ask
Trowa?"
"Yeah." Duo said miserably. "He can't go
either."
"Go on out yourself, then, and I'll have dinner ready
when you come in. Okay? Besides, I'm not good at that sort of thing!" He
laughed merrily and tossed a cup of sliced carrots into a pot on the stove.
"Let me know when you're done, I want to see it, okay?"
"Sure, I guess." the subdued American went to the
porch and bundled up in his black parka and scarf, and a pair of red gloves and
earmuffs. He slipped his feet into thick boots and stomped outside.
Snow was still gently falling on the lawn, bringing a little
smile to Duo's face. He would have loved this. He began to roll a small snowball along the ground until it was medium-sized
and round.
"Don't want to make him too fat!" Duo laughed,
getting more into the spirit of things. He packed snow onto a second ball and
added it on top of the first. He then used the remainder of the snow on the
tiny lawn to make the last ball for the head. The result was a lopsided
'snowman,' an inch or two shorter than Duo, with its head just a little skewed
as though it was cocked to one side, listening intently. Duo chipped some snow
off the bottom ball and added it to the head to fill it out.
"There." he said aloud. "Now to
accessorize." He broke two sticks from the maple tree and stuck them where
arms should be, then clomped into the house for some clothing. He opened the
hallway closet and took down a shoebox.
Inside were his possessions. They had been barely
used when Duo had stored them away; a pair of green gloves and a black scarf
that matched Duo's own.
****Flashback*****
Duo presented the gloves and scarf to Heero eagerly.
"See, they match mine!"
The Japanese pilot inspected the items. "What are they
for?"
"Well, I thought we'd look Christmassy together! After
all, it is our first Christmas together. But L2 gets cold at this
time of year. Do you like them?"
"They're...nice." Heero finally said, trying on
the gloves.
"Great!" Duo crowed, depositing the heap of
clothing on the counter. "We can go out and build a snowman, if it ever
snows!"
******End of flashback******
Duo gritted his teeth and blinked tears away from his eyes.
The gloves and scarf had only been worn once...they had been returned to Duo,
along with Heero's other possessions, after the accident. Heero had been taken
away from him on Christmas Eve, the one time that Duo had wanted to spend most
with his koi.
****Flashback*****
"I'm on my way, right now."
"I don't know if you should try it in this
weather..." Duo said uneasily.
"Shuttles are completely safe," Heero assured him.
"And if I catch the next one, I'll be there in a few hours. Okay?"
"Okay..." Duo looked out the window at the gusting
wind and snow. "If you're sure..."
"I'm sure. I told you I'd be home for Christmas, and I
will." With that, Heero cut the connection, leaving Duo alone with his
worries.
Heero had never arrived at the house. The weather
synthesizers had gone haywire, as they sometimes did, and the snow and wind
blasted all over the colony without mercy. Heero's shuttle hadn't made it
through the horrible weather that night, its occupants had perished in the cold
after the transport went down in the forest. Heero never made it home.
They came the next morning with the news, waking up the
worried Duo from his sleeping place by the phone. They could only extend their condolences
and give Duo what they had found in the wreckage; Heero's small backpack,
gloves and scarf, and the small gold cross Heero had been wearing around his
neck. The cross was something that Duo himself owned, and gave to Heero often
when he was away, to keep him safe. But this time all of Duo's prayers and
charms hadn't been enough to save Heero; he hadn't died heroically in battle,
his young life had been taken by a stupid, stupid accident that should never
have happened. Leaving Duo all alone.
******End of flashback******
Duo held the cross in the palm of his hand and looked at it
tiredly. He had never worn it since they had taken it from his lover's neck; he
had simply thrown it in the box and left it for a year. Duo slipped the metal
object into his pocket and stepped out into the cold once again.
With a wistful smile, Duo wound the black scarf around the
snowman's neck and put Heero's gloves on its hands. "I guess I shouldn't
let them go to waste, ne?"
He added two stones for eyes and a piece of cork for a nose,
but wasn't sure what to do about the mouth. He ended up using small pebbles in
a line, making the snowman look almost like he was frowning. With a grimace,
Duo moved the end stones up so the snowman had a kind of emotionless look about
him, not a smile, not a frown, just there. He then stepped back to
admire his handiwork.
"Looks decent." Duo chuckled, even though the
snowman's head was still slightly tilted, making it almost look like he was
deep in thought, or maybe just frowning at Duo again. Duo winked at the snowman
and headed back to the house, a genuine smile on his lips. He shook off his
boots and bounded into the kitchen. "Hey, Q-man! How's the food?"
"Just about ready," Quatre laughed. "You have
fun?"
"Yeah." Duo wrung some of the water out of his chestnut
braid into the sink. "Snowman looks good, I think."
"Great. I haven't seen you smile for a long time,
Duo." Quatre gave him a knowing look. "I want you to know that I'm
always here for you to talk to, okay?"
"Sure thing." Duo began heaping food on his plate
without waiting for Wufei and Trowa to come to the table. "Yum!"
"Duo!" Quatre began to scold the American, but
stopped. Duo was shovelling mashed potatoes into his mouth like there was no
tomorrow. Quatre decided to just let him eat, if Wufei and Trowa didn't get to
the kitchen before Duo ate everything it was their own fault. The braided
pilot's cheeks were flushed red and his hair was still dripping. Quatre just
shook his head and helped himself to his own dinner.
Later in the night, Duo peered out the window at the
lopsided snowman, who was stoically guarding the yard. The figure almost seemed
to have its hands on its hips in an indignant fashion, and Duo knew that the
not-quite-frown on its face make it look rather ticked off from the front. Duo
sighed and lay back in his bed.
He picked up the gold cross from the night table and looked
at it curiously. Oh, Heero, why didn't it keep you safe? I could have spent
last Christmas alone...but you tried to get here anyway, and now I have to
spend every Christmas alone. It's not fair.
He wondered if the metal object had any luck left in it--it
had served him well for many years before he had given it to Heero the very
last time he saw his koi. "I'm sorry, love, it wasn't your fault. I was
selfish for wanting you here."
Duo slowly wound the chain around his slender neck and
clasped it at the back. The familiar weight settled into the hollow of his
throat as though it had never left. "I just didn't want to be alone. I'm
sorry."
Outside, the wind suddenly picked up again with brute force
and rattled the windows of the house. The snow whipped blindingly past the
house, and Duo shut his eyes to ward off the brightness.
"I just didn't want to be alone."

Shi-chan: o.O sad.
Whaddya think?
Duo: ..... :-(
Heero: I'm dead. Oh great.
Duo: What are you complaining about, usually I'm the
one that's dead in her fics!
Wufei: Are you gonna pass me off as the American-abusing
snot again?
Shi-chan: Gomen, Wu-man...you'll find out, next chapter...
