When Daisuke awoke he found hismelf in a most unusual position -- the Digimon Kaiser was curled up behind him, spooned against his back. "Erk."
Despite the redhead's movements of initial surprise, Ken did not stir. Daisuke lay still for a moment, enjoying the contact -- he enjoyed and and all contact with the boy, though he'd never admit it to his more homphobic friends -- and trying to decide what to do. The most logical idea, of course, would be to hide Ken from the other Chosen--at least until he was certain that Ken wasn't going to go Kaiser on him.
I'll take him to the Real World, Daisuke finally decided. If I hurry, we can get back before the others come here looking for me, and we can get Ken's head checked. I'll come back later myself and look for V-mon. The Child of Courage was wary to leave his partner in the hands of the Kaiser's minions, but he didn't have much choice. He'd have to get his leg fixed up before going anywhere.
So when Ken eventually awoke Daisuke was already plotting the closest way back to the television he'd come to the Digital World through. "Motomiya-san?"
"It's Daisuke...or just Motomiya. How are you feeling?"
"Everything's still a little fuzzy." Fuzzy didn't even begin to describe what Ken was feeling. "I'll be all right in a minute."
"Okay, that's good. We're gonna go back to the Real World as soon as one of us can walk, and we'll make sure your head's all right."
"Okay," Ken agreed reluctantly. "The...Real World?"
"Yeah...right now we're in the Digital World, if you don't remember. Which is a world inside computers, kind of. If you remember what a computer is."
"I don't."
"I'll show you when we get there, then." Daisuke assisted Ken to his feet and the two boys carefully moved out of the cave, leaning on each other for support. The pain in Daisuke's ankle had faded from intense to a dull ache, but not quite enough to put weight on. Ken's wiry frame was enough to support them both, but the inky-haired boy was still suffering from dizziness and fatigue.
Together the two stumbled up the hill to the television, excrutiatingly slowly. Ken was sweating and weak, and Daisuke checked his D-3 worriedly every few seconds. He hadn't seen any sign of the other Chosen yet, but if his parents had called the police his friends surely would have discovered that he was missing.
The two boys huddled in front of the port while Daisuke explained how, exactly, they would return to the real world (well, as much as he could remember from Koushirou's lectures). "...so I'll just hold this out, and it'll bring us home."
"Home..." Ken whispered hesitantly. "All right. Let's go."
Daisuke held out his D-3 to the screen. "Digital gate, open!"
~*~*~*~*~*~
Daisuke had not prepeared for what would greet him upon his arrival at the Odaiba Elementary computer lab. Not Miyako, not Koushirou, not Sensei...but someone he was not prepared for.
Ichijouji Ken.
"Oh...this could be a problem."
"What?" Ken, of course, was oblivious.
"Uh...you look a little....different...in the Real World."
"I do?" Ken last a confused glace down at himself. He wore a plain grey school uniform; nothing terribly identifiable, and a pair of black shoes. "This isn't right?"
"That's not what I meant." Daisuke lifted a hand to finger Ken's chin-length blue hair, the touch sending chills down both their spines. "It's just that here, you've kind of been....missing...for a little while."
"Missing what?" Ken cast a glance around, as though looking for the lost object.
"You. You...left home a few weeks ago, and people are still looking for you. I don't know whether I can take you out in public without risking somebody recognizing you."
"Oh..."
"I'll see what I can do." Daisuke reached out and unzipped Ken's jacket, then took off his own blue vest while Ken gingerly removed the garment. The redhead then donned the jacket while Ken put on the vest. Then, taking care to stay away from the bandaged wound on the side of the other boy's head, Daisuke tied Ken's longish hair back with a peice of string. "There, that's better."
"All right." Ken was much less pale after a moment of rest. "Now what?"
"Now...we find ourselves a doctor."
