Special Skills The fighting style of the Hyuuga family is very specialized, due to the Byakugan's abilities, and Neji surpasses even the main house in his mastery of this style.

Byakugan
A special hereditary skill, also known as a Bloodline Limit, residing in the eyes. It is exclusive to the Hyuuga clan, and accounts for the strange color of their eyes. It allows the user a near 360º range of vision, as well as the ability to see through objects, and microscopic vision. It also allows the user to see the flow of chakra in other beings, and even works with the eyes closed. It is considered the predecessor of the Sharingan, as the Uchiha clan's roots is in the Hyuuga family. This skill is envied and much sought after by the shinobi of other villages.
Hakkeshou Kaiten
A special fighting technique passed down to the Hyuuga heirs. It is very high level, and difficult to master. It consists of expelling chakra from one's entire body, stopping weapons, and then spinning to knock said weapons away. To master this technique, one's control of chakra must be superb. This technique only truly works for the Hyuuga, as one must be able to sense weapons with perfect accuracy, and the Byakugan allows the Hyuuga to do so. Neji is from a Hyuuga branch house, and not an heir, so it is exceptional that he mastered this on his own.
Hakkeshou 64 Hands of Hakke
Yet another Hyuuga technique passed down to the heirs, but this one is far more advanced than even the Kaiten, and only the top members of the main household are taught this technique. It utilizes the Hyuuga fighting style, Hakkeshou, to press all 64 "opening points" on a person's body within seconds. Opening points are small points on a person's body which release chakra. With the correct technique, they can be used to control an opponent's chakra, either releasing it all or sealing it off. The ability to use the opening points is a strictly Hyuuga advantage, as the points are invisible to all but Byakugan users. Neji amazes the head of the Hyuuga main family when he uses this technique, as only the top Hyuuga heirs are allowed to learn it, and few even succeed.

Other Information
Neji's first appearance: Volume 4, chapter 36 of the manga, and episode 21 of the anime.
Family: The Hyuuga may be an extensive clan, but only two branches are seen in Naruto: the main family, and Neji's branch family. The main family consists of Hyuuga Hiashi, the current head of the family, and his daughters Hyuuga Hinata and Hyuuga Hanabi. Neji's branch family consists of just himself, as his father, Hyuuga Hizashi, was killed in place of Hiashi, and his mother is never mentioned. Hizashi and Hiashi were twins, but Hiashi was born first, and thus became a member of the main family, and Hizashi became a branch family member. The branch families are strongly controlled by a curse seal jutsu, the "bird in a cage" jutsu. It allows the main family to hurt or even kill a branch member with a mere hand seal, for protection of the main house. Neji's father greatly resented the fact that he became a branch member, and Neji absorbed that hatred, which intensified with Hizashi's death. Neji hates his cousin Hinata with a passion, as she is the eldest daughter, and heir to the Hyuuga family. Hinata also is much weaker than Neji, which leads to much contempt on his part. However, Hinata may be considered stronger than Neji in spirit, as she attempts to fight against her physical weakness, while Neji believes everything is predestined, even strength.
Friends: Neji doesn't have friends so much as he has allies, but if anyone could be considered his friend, it would be his teammates Rock Lee and Tenten. Although Lee and Neji have a slight rivalry going on (mostly on Lee's part), there seems to be geniune like there, if not at least tolerance. Tenten also frequently helps Neji keep his Kaiten in shape, with her large arsenal of weapons.
Love Life: Practically non-existant. ^^;; Neji is a side character, and doesn't get much coverage outside of his storyline. This, however, leaves him quite free for fandom to decide. ^^ For those pushing for het pairings, the logical would be Neji/Tenten, or (if you can stand it) Neji/Hinata. However, as Naruto is chockful of guys, it's a yaoi dream. *_* The most popular Neji pairing is Neji/Lee (although Lee/anyone makes me go "eeewww" XD) Don't get me wrong, I love eyebrow boy....just...he just isn't built for the physical part of the relationship, poor dear. Neji, however, is overflowing in bishounen-ness, and he pairs pretty with most people. My favorite pairing (which, quite frankly, I pulled out of my ass) is Neji/Shikamaru. Don't ask. XD
Rivalry: Neji is seen as one of the many opponents for Sasuke, much to Naruto's disappointment. Also, Lee is dead set on kicking Neji's ass (underlying sexual tension? naaw...), and Neji seems to take the whole branch/main family thing quite personally. I think he's mad because he thinks a big semi-swastika on his forehead is not in fashion. The stupid Hyuuga curse seal looks like a frigging swastika, i swear. Maybe that explains a few things about the family...

The Fandom Romance List: All the Neji pairings I have stumbled across, or that I like. My favorites are marked with a "*", while hated ones are marked with a "#"

Yaoi:
  • Neji/Lee
  • Neji/Sasuke
  • Neji/Shikamaru* (It's very unlikely, but hey, I'd love to see Neji's reactions to Shikamaru's lack of motivation. XD)
  • Neji/Gaara* (Hmmm...kinda scary pairing...but then again, Gaara/anyone is scary...both vengeful powerfreaks, urg. v.v;)
  • Neji/Naruto
  • Neji/Kiba# (what the HELL? This is even more off the wall than my NejiShika pairing)
Het:
  • Neji/Tenten
  • Neji/Hinata# (Incest, I don't mind. I just can't see them together, personally. Too clashy personalities, and too much bad blood.)
  • This list is depressively short, so here, another out-of-my-ass pairing: Neji/Ino! v.v;;
